All About Gauge Knitting Math Workshop w/ Kate
Date
Time
Understanding gauge is the single biggest key to garments that fit the way you intend. An hour and a half spent in this workshop with Kate could save you many hours of wasted knitting.
What does it mean to “meet gauge”? Why should we swatch? In this session, you’ll learn what gauge is, what it measures, and why it matters. We’ll talk through all the factors that affect gauge — needle size, yarn choice, knitting style, construction, and more — and how to adjust when your gauge doesn’t match what’s listed on a pattern.
In this session, you’ll explore:
- The purpose and significance of gauge
- Properties of textiles, patterns, and stitches and their effects on gauge
- Creating and measuring gauge swatches
- Understanding stitch and row gauge, vertical and horizontal ease
- Yarn weights, metres, and grams — why measurement matters
Note: Materials are not included. Bring yarn from your stash or enjoy a 10% discount on in-store materials purchased for use in the workshop.
