Learn to knit cables while starting a little ornament for your tree or a handmade gift. Join Kate to explore the ropes, twists and braids of cable knitting, which are simpler to create than they look!

You’ll learn how cables are formed by rearranging stitches, how to use a cable needle alongside your knitting needles, and how to work right- and left-leaning cables with crossings of one to four stitches.

Together, we’ll start a cabled swatch that you can frame in an embroidery hoop as a Christmas ornament or a little piece of home décor. It’s a lovely way to use leftover yarn. If you don’t finish during class, you’ll take home instructions for the finishing touches.

Note: You should already know how to cast on, knit and purl. No cable-knitting experience needed!

About the Instructor

Kate Crane is an educator, social anthropologist and a self-taught knitter who has been knitting for herself and others since 2015. She has recently taken an exciting foray into knitwear design, which has reinvigorated her knitting life! She considers art and craft as a way of being and responding in the world—a sweater isn’t just a sweater, but an entanglement of thought, feeling, material conditions, cultural practice, historical moment, and soulful reach toward what might be made possible. She lives in South Dartmouth with her husband and 5-year-old daughter.
