Learn to Knit Portuguese Style w/ Kate
Date
Time
Discover a whole new way to knit. In this hands-on workshop led by Kate, you’ll learn the Portuguese style — also known as the “thumb” method — from cast-on to maintaining tension, all in one session.
While English and Continental styles are more common in our part of the world, Portuguese knitting has some wonderfully unique characteristics: tension is held around the neck or through a pin attached to your shirt, and knitters often work with the wrong side of the work facing them. It’s widely praised as a comfortable style for those with arthritic or painful hands — and it makes purling faster and easier for everyone.
We’ll start a garter stitch scarf together, though you’re welcome to bring any beginner-level pattern to work on. More advanced knitters are welcome too — this is a great style to add to your toolkit. Pattern suggestions will be included in your confirmation email after you sign up.
Note: Materials are not included. Bring yarn from your stash or enjoy a 10% discount on in-store materials purchased for use in the workshop.
